china trip

I've been back to Shanghai recently, and met up with many old friends and visited many old places. It's funny how you live in a place for a while, and then you leave it, and when you go back for a visit, you feel so familiar with the place, it's like you did not leave for good, but just went for an extended holiday. but then when you try and call your friends, and revisit your old haunts, you realize that indeed, a lot of time has passed. I know that was how i felt when i went back to Seattle, and it's how I feel this time, when i went back to Shanghai. Most of the friends i hung out with had gone. Alice went back to Cali within days of my leaving, Aditya's in Cali too, Lance, In Cali, Engen and alfred's in London... sad.... even my singaporean friends, many came back to Singapore.

Learnt a few things on this trip

1) The Chinese friends I made in China a really better friends than the Singaporeans i met in China. When I went back, they were so happy to meet me and to catch up, and they went out of their way to make me feel welcome and to show that they are really glad to see me again, and that they did not forget our friendship. The Singaporean friends that I had made in China on the other hand, didn't even bother to make time to say hello.

2) Favourite restaurants are ALWAYS the first to move away. I was so looking forward to dining at my favourite restaurant again. But when i got there, i was greeted with an empty place. The restaurant had moved! and i didn't know where to find it again.

3) what you loved about the place is what you love. What you hated about the place is what you hate. your feelings don't really change, even though time has lapsed. Before i went back, i was waxing lyrics about how good Shanghai is, and that I'd do anything to go back again. but when i went back, the dirt and stench and crowd just got to me again, then it's like a series of "Oh... that's why i decided to move back. now i remember." I suppose that ust be the feeling if i were to go back to an ex boyfriend. It would probably be like oh, this is good.... but now i remember why we broke up. yeah... we got it right the first time round.

4) I love temperate climate!!!

back for good?

Hello everyone! nope! i didn't drop off the face of the earth, china limited access network happened to me. I'd upload pictures halfway, and zip, everything will close.  This happened over and over again. so frustrating! So as a result, I didn't bother blogging anymore.

Well, a lot has changed for me. To start with, I'm no longer in Shanghai, I'm back in Singapore now. Shanghai is a wonderful place, and I recommend everybody to go and live there for a while, but for me, it's been almost two years of living there consecutively, I've seen about 4 waves of friends come and go. And my job is not getting me anywhere. so to further my career, (my hope is to find a job in Singapore and be sent back to china) i came back to Singapore. Well, as far as career goes, I think I succeeded pretty well, tomorrow, I'm signing the papers for my new job at Far East Organizations in Singapore. This gives me a hefty pay increment too!!! And I only just came back on Sunday. hahahhaa!!!

Aniways, it's good to be back, and to start off and make up for loss time, I will post pictures of those I will sorely miss in Shanghai, and whom i missed in Singapore.

The person I miss most in Singapore, my dog Queenie. She may be old and deaf, but she's still my baby girl!!!.

Leaving Shanghai was one of the hardest thing I had to do in my short life. I felt that I have not yet completed what I went there to do, yet, to seems that I'm done. So many memories and people that I leave behind.

My last night in Shanghai, I got spectacularly drunk at Bar Rouge. The next day, my mum was NOT pleased with me. My aunt was over and she thought I'd caught the flu. my mum corrected her. saying, "no... she has a hangover. you know, like when you drink to much the night before.... you know" and they both looked at me and went "tsk tsk"
Me and Alice in Bar Rouge. Alice is my best friend in China. Lovely Californian girl. Drinks like a guppy. We had good times together. many many good times.

Had to meet up with Aditya before I left. Aditya is the world's nicest playboy. hahaha. No, i joke, he's not a playboy. but he sure knows how to party! Adi is leaving Shangahi for LA soon, don't know if I'l ever see him again. So just for old times sake.. Me, Adi and Alice, big pimpin'

Lance came back to Shanghai for a visit, thankfully I had a chance to meet him before I left.
Alice, me and Lance

Michael, very dear to me. He was in Dalian when I left, bad timing, but what to do?

Engen, she's already left to London by the time I left, but she was a great friend, awsome to hang out with. I do miss her! (and i needed an excuse to put up a lovely picture of moi)

I'll stop here for now. More of my adventures in China later!

I'm BACK IN SEATTLE!!!!

Oh it's soooooo good to be back. i love it i love it i love it!
One of the things that i love of the land of the free, is that I can asscess ALL internet web pages that i want to. in China, most "blogspot" webpages are denied entry, so I have not had the chance to check up on my friend's webpages, so this morning, the first thing i did after emailing my family is to check out on Deborah's webpage. imagine my surprise when I saw this article she wrote for me, in Febuary.

The month of Jan was a month of festivities- Chinese New Year and Hari Raya. All these following the month of December. I had 2 months of munching and crunching. The highlight of it all was the return of my childhood friend. Le came back for Chinese New Year celebrations with her family. I truely missed her this past year. It was great being able to spend time with her and catch up on each others life face to face. In a few more days, it would be her birthday and I would like to wish her a Happy Birthday. It has been 18 years since we first met. We have grown up and gone our seperate ways. I am glad that through our busy schedules, we have managed to keep in touch and stay as close friends as we are now. In our own lives we have had our ups and downs and I am grateful that we have been there for each other.

While Le was here in Singapore, we had time to catch up with the new things in our lives and after we had settled that, we moved on to talk about more serious things. One of the topics we spoke about was about friendship. I guess I have to say that I am pretty lucky to have such a good friend, someone I can rely on. In this past 2 years, I have seen a revalation. I have come to understand the meaning of friends and acquiantence. This has helped me to prevent placing certain expectations on people. I know that we should not place expectations on people, but I can't help it. I don't place unreasonable expectations on them. For example, I would expect a person who I call my friend to be a person that I can trust and can rely on. I see this as a fair expectation.

I am glad to say that as I grow older in age, I am beginning to understand things that I never did before. Thank you for understanding me, accepting me for who I am and being there for me whenever I need you. HAPPY 24th BIRTHDAY my dearest friend.

Love,
Deborah

I felt so happy when i read this entry, but sad at the same time, as it's already MAY when i read it, she wrote this in Febuary. But well, better late then never. I'm so happy that I've friends like this, so happy. so touched. that you so much Debs. I love you too.

Another friend that I'm really grateful for right now is Esther. She's one of my few remaining friends in seattle, or rather, few friends who remained in Seattle, and she's putting me up in a really good hotel that she works for for my time here in Seattle. We don't usually keep in contact coz well, we are both not the best at corrospondences, heh, but well, she is a great friend. THank you Esther, so very much!

IT"S MY BIRTHDAY!!

It's my birthday! and to celebrate, I'll post some pictures of my trip to Bali up.

Not doing anything special today, coz well, I'm at work, and i'm rather sick, boo hoo, but why am I sick, coz I partied too hard during the weekend!!! hahaha!

Friday was Alfred's farewell dinner, and met some of Alf's lovely friends at dinner. I'm so grateful to Alfred, I'm rally sad that he's leaving, but as a parting gift, he's introduced me to some really nice people. hoepfully I'm not too much of a loser, and they'll include me into their group even after Alfred leaves. After dinner, went to Babyface to PARTY!!! it was great fun. finally, Alfred's friends love to dance, so we danced for hours and hours. it got kindda tiring, until David and Leonard came with their tables, girls and booze. Hahaha!! there was this girl at their table, who was so drunk, she practically rolled under the couch. not a pretty sight. Aniways, partied til 5am, had some supper and went home in time to watch the sun go up.

Next night, was birthday dinner for ME. had Japanese buffet. But we were good children, and didn't drink... much. the Singaporean group came out in full force, so that was nice. then we headed out to Babyface. again. and Leonard booked the VIP table for us, which was a real treat. Until... dear Matt showed up with his fugly fiance (who he cheated on me for, and when i was with him, he cheated on her) to introduce to me as my brithday present. wasn't that sweet of him? i wish he'd die a horrible death....... soon. In the meantime, may he have strong, horrible BO.

Aniways, bygones. Here are some pictures!

View from my hotel. that is a temple tower.

A restaurant at my hotel. Ain't it pretty?

Fishies! Artistic shot!

Me at the beach in my beach gear!! ok yes, I know i need to lose some. but hey, if I loved during the Tang dynasty I'd be a HUGE hit with the emperor!!!

My mum in her beach gear. Somehow, i don't think "sunbathing" is in her vocabulary

view from a temple built on a cliff. That place, was completely filled with monkeys. monkeys of all shapes and sizes. it was aweful. they'd snatch at everything. we nneded a special guide, whos main job was to make sure that my dad's hat and glasses stayed on his head!

Aren't they CUTE? two identical mothers with babies!!!

ps. MANY THANKS TO ALL YOU PEEPS WHO"VE WISHED ME HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
